Here, in another photograph from the Akcakale crossing, a Syrian refugee holds onto his daughter as they attempt to cross into Turkey. The refugees had fled from the town of Tel Abiad due to impending fighting between Isis and Kurdish forces there. A few minutes after this photograph was taken, the Turkish officials allowed them to cross the border into Turkey.
